Biblical Audio Commentary – Wisdom of Man, Foolishness of God

Transcript:

“Mythology says that God created man in His image.  One major aspect of this is that men (and, I’ll concede, some women) are generally quite smart.  Truth be told, a very few of us are brilliant and wise beyond anything that imaginary King Solomon could conceive.  In fact, we’re so smart that we’ve decided we no longer need our supposed Creator.  If He really exists and did make us, He was deficient in the finished product.  This makes us less than all we can be.  Over the years of critically thinking like this, we’ve evolved our brains and the wisdom we’ve acquired to determine the next big thing in what humanity should look like.  What can stop us?  Who is God that He has anything to do with us or this world?”

No, I haven’t become one of them.  This is simply the mindset of the world, particularly of the global elites who wish to rule this planet.

It’s difficult not to see the pride and arrogance of such a stance.  These people really do believe their own fantasies.  But they do have a good point.  In the aftermath of men disregarding what God commanded following the Flood – that they should scatter throughout the earth – they gathered on the plains of Shinar (Babylon) and built the Tower of Babel in their desire to reach the heavens and manipulate God and the gods.  When God saw this, He came down to inspect their disobedience more closely.  Seeing this monumental effort and how successful it might become, His response is actually frightening in its implications, as stated in Genesis 11:6:

And the Lord said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.

The reality is that given what God did in creating us, He succeeded almost too well.  With our free will and the capacity to think that we have, do we have any limitations?  Most of mankind doesn’t think so, although we who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ know that God has indeed set certain limits.  It’s like how Psalm 104:5-9 describes the earthly restraints of His creation:

He set the earth on its foundations,
so that it should never be moved.
You covered it with the deep as with a garment;
the waters stood above the mountains.
At your rebuke they fled;
at the sound of your thunder they took to flight.
The mountains rose, the valleys sank down
to the place that you appointed for them.
You set a boundary that they may not pass,
so that they might not again cover the earth.

Likewise, there is a line that when man attempts to cross it, He will no longer allow us such luxury.

The unbelieving mind of man cannot comprehend that anything can keep us from reaching the goal of the elites.  Consider the advances in Artificial Intelligence.  We’ve gotten to the point that it’s so frighteningly smart and human-like that we’re concerned it might destroy us and take over the world.  If we can create something like that, the sky’s the limit.

With such heady results, is it any wonder that those behind this technology believe themselves to be all-powerful?  They can manipulate the weather and deceive most people to think the climate is changing through natural emissions like CO2.  They can create a bio-weapon in the form of a vaccine and subsequently create and unleash a supposed deadly virus that can only be tamed through the administering of multiple vaxx injections.  After all – didn’t you know – natural immunity is useless!  They can initiate wars and make the populace believe that it’s in our best interest to radically deplete our weapons and armaments supplies for a nation in which we have no vested interest (other than illegal biolabs) because the real threats in the world are our friends, and/or that the bully in Europe would never dare to fire hostile missiles against us.  They can also twist the image of mankind and our sexuality to make youth and others believe that to find their true selves, they must mutilate their bodies.

Yes, power and control over the masses: they have it all because they’re so wise.

But God . . .

His Word has something to say about this, and it’s a very comforting understanding that the Lord imparts to us.  Consider 1 Corinthians 1:18-31:

18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written,

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
    and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”

20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

26 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. 30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

All this that man has imagined in his foolish and fevered brain is nothing but folly to the Lord.  These global elites lift themselves on high and denigrate the God of Heaven and Earth.  But they do so at their peril.

The fact of Jesus coming to this sin-drenched planet to die for those very sins, and to redeem those to Himself who choose to believe, is the greatest assurance we have that none of this will last.  Those in power hope to bring an overflowing scourge against the bulk of mankind, but it is God who will bring that destruction upon those who perpetrate it, as well as all those who decide to follow them.

Isn’t it amazing that God sees this wisdom that man thinks he has as nothing but a breath that disappears in a moment?  Isn’t it comforting to know that we can take refuge in Almighty God and know that His hand will protect us – even when it seems as if all is lost?

The message of the cross!  Christ crucified!  What foolishness to human perception!

But, it’s the power of God and our one true hope.
