Awaken Bible Prophecy Update 4-19-23: Parallel of Israel’s & America’s Beginnings

An interesting parallel is evident when we compare certain historical aspects of ancient Israel’s beginning with that of America’s first years.  In making this comparison, we don’t want to make the mistake of conflating or confusing the covenants God made with Israel with how our nation was founded and developed.  The Bible clearly records the multi-covenant promises the Lord made with His Chosen People.  There’s obviously no such Scriptural record for us in the US to cling to.  Yet, our nation has had a very special relationship with God because of how the hearts of many of our founding fathers were for Him.  That’s important and extremely consequential.  When a people honor and revere our Creator as the One true God and worship only Him, He blesses that nation and/or individuals for the faith it requires to take such a stand for Him.  Likewise, when a people turn away from God, they lose His favor and suffer the consequences for their apostasy.

God had a plan for the Israelites.  They were to be a blessing to others and a beacon in the world pointing Gentiles toward the Holy One of Israel.  Much of that plan didn’t work so well because of the deceitful hearts of God’s children.  The Jewish nation had a faith problem.  Apparently one God – who laid down rules, commandments, statutes, precepts, and laws – must have been too boring for their tastes.  But, the gods of the pagan nations surrounding Israel – the pantheon of them!  Now there were some deities to worship and follow!  Nothing ho-hum about these fascinating beings.  And the marvelous part was that Israel could have a god for all occasions and every reason.  You want a cricket god to oversee those insects as a yummy snack, or a mealworm god to revere when you make mealworm flour pancakes?  You got it!  Gosh, you’d think the Israelites were heeding the World Economic Forum of today in following those gods.

But, of course, this falling away took time.  One doesn’t usually change his gods overnight.  In fact, most people don’t do it at all.  Leave it to the Israelites, as the prophet lamented in Jeremiah 2:11:

Has a nation changed its gods,
even though they are no gods?
But my people have changed their glory
for that which does not profit.

America started out well, just as Israel did in Round 2 when the people finally crossed the Jordan River after the Exodus generation failed Round 1, and God determined they would wander in the wilderness 40 years for their lack of faith.  That’s the problem, however, whether with Israel or America, starting out well isn’t a promise of continuing to do so.  How is it working out for us to change our God for other gods?

In today’s Prophecy Update I want to draw some simple parallels between these two nations from their earliest years.  As I inevitably do, I then wish to project where each of these once God-fearing states will end up because of their falling away into the foolish pursuit of other gods.

First, let’s pray and read a Bible verse . . .

<PRAY>

Scripture:

Jeremiah 2:11

Has a nation changed its gods,
even though they are no gods?
But my people have changed their glory
for that which does not profit.

The Israel-America Parallel

  • I want to start the comparison with an exile of sorts, but not the Exile
  • In speaking of the Exile – that would be when God gave over the nation of Judah to the Babylonian kingdom some years later than I’m dealing with today
  • In the time of Israel’s patriarchs, the older sons of Jacob had issues with their younger brother Joseph
  • We’re all familiar with the account of their tossing him into a pit and selling him to a caravan of Ishmaelite traders heading to Egypt
  • To convince their father that Joseph was dead, they brought his coat of many colors that Jacob had favored Joseph with and smeared it with animal blood
  • But God had a plan
  • This was an atrocity in His eyes that the brothers would treat one of their own in such a callous manner
  • To begin the correction, God raised up Joseph to a position of prominence in Egypt and eventually brought a devastating famine over the entire region
  • Joseph’s older brothers came hat in hand to Egypt begging for food
  • They were given this and more by Joseph in his exalted position
  • Ultimately as the drama played out, the entire tribe of Israel – some 70 people – ended up in Egypt, effectively in exile from the land God had given them, free from the oppression of the severe famine that had driven them there

  • America’s beginning came through an exile as well
  • The Puritans and Pilgrims in Europe were being harassed and persecuted for their faith
  • They had heard of this new land across the seas and determined to make their way there in order to begin anew
  • America held the promise of freedom and relief from the oppression of those around them who held different beliefs
  • Coming to our shores, they came in their totality and foresaw a new life in a land of plenty

  • In their new home in Egypt, the Israelites prospered
  • They multiplied and became a great people

  • In a similar manner the religious refugees from Europe grew and prospered in America
  • This was a land of opportunity and great expansiveness
  • We likewise became a great people

  • As these things go, a new Pharaoh arose to power over Egypt and saw the Israelites as a threat because of how numerous they’d become
  • Whenever fear and insecurity are present, people do things to gain control of the situation
  • In the case of Pharaoh, he subjugated the Israelites to a life of slavery, certain they would rebel otherwise and be an internal danger to Egypt

  • Christians in the New World hoped to build a nation that would always honor Christ
  • In the natural, that’s an impossible dream because of man’s sinful aspect and deceitful heart
  • As it’s been said, God has no grandchildren – only children
  • Each generation must teach the next about the Lord and instill solid Biblical understanding and faith – otherwise the children of the believers will stray to follow a path away from God
  • When the leaders in America began doing this, they directed others in their beliefs and many people lived in ways that were far from God
  • There is freedom only in Christ
  • Once America began rejecting Him, bondage to the flesh and other gods arose in our nation
  • We became slaves to sin

  • When God appointed Moses to be Israel’s deliverer, he thought his presence alone would cause the people to believe and follow him as he acted as God’s representative
  • He was like: “Hey, it’s me, Moses! I’m here to deliver you!”
  • He figured that the Israelites would see him as holy and anointed
  • Instead, they questioned Moses because they no longer knew the One who had created them and called them to Himself, necessitating God to show His people who He was through His might and power demonstrated via the Ten Plagues
  • 400 years of slavery and immersed in a culture of other gods made it very difficult for the Israelites to comprehend the truth of Yahweh
  • He had to show that He was superior to the frog, fish, bird, sun, cricket, mealworm, and you-name-it gods – which were, in actuality, demonic entities
  • You can see how frustrating this was for God by the fact that more than once He wanted to simply destroy the Israelites completely and begin again with Moses

  • In our flesh, I think we have a tendency to misjudge the impact that Satan has on unbelievers
  • Too often, as Christians, I think we’ve had the fantasy that just because we’re living for God, others will see that and want it
  • That is true in some instances, but all too often, unbelievers think they’ve got life figured out and everything is just fine
  • They have their gods, whatever they look like, and are generally satisfied with their lives
  • They like – even love – the world, because their gods give them entertainment and all the trivialities people have come to expect and embrace in their self-centeredness
  • Our presence alone – living out the Christian life – has never been the final answer
  • God has required us to be bold in the faith, open our mouths, and witness about Him
  • That’s the Great Commission
  • Just because there were Christ-followers in America never meant the nation was going to convert and become righteous

  • The Israelites in Egypt suffered greatly in their slavery imposed by Pharaoh and his successors
  • In their bondage, their cries rose to heaven and God heard them
  • As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, the sin of the Amorites needed to reach it fullness, and that took many years
  • Finally, after 400 years, the conditions all around were in place for God to deliver His people

  • In America, there have been ups and downs as to faith with those following the Lord Jesus Christ
  • I don’t know the exact year in which faith began significantly decreasing in our nation, although sometime in the 1960s was likely that tipping point
  • Since then, there has been a gradual falling away from faith in Christ
  • Accompanying that has been a marked decrease in those calling themselves Christian yet not holding to a true Biblical worldview
  • At the same time, conditions in the world have become increasingly anti-God, both in secular society and within the church
  • Other gods came in as well to replace the One true God whom we were kicking out of our culture
  • Those of us with a pre-Tribulation Rapture predisposition have seen all this and realize the end is near
  • What is happening all around us is significant evidence of the birth pains that Jesus spoke of in the final days
  • We who are pre-Tribbers have also come to the awareness that this earth isn’t our home, just as Jesus said
  • Previously those were just words in the Bible that most of us never connected with
  • Conditions all around us have finally driven that truth deep within our hearts
  • This world is an alien place in which we are strangers and don’t belong
  • This has caused many of us to realize how weary we are because of how much the world has worn us down
  • Many of us now yearn for that day when we will come into the presence of the Lord, believing even more fervently in the pre-Trib Rapture
  • God sees our desire and hears our prayers
  • He knows that in this world there is affliction
  • The timing for His deliverance of those who love Him is almost at hand
  • For a better understanding of this, be sure to check out the Awaken Bible Prophecy Update titled The Countdown

  • When Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and into the presence of God . . .
  • They encountered Him through miracles, signs, and wonders – plus in fire and darkness
  • Their flesh, however, always got in the way of truly drawing near to Him as God desired
  • The fantasy that they lived sumptuously in Egypt was a huge lie that they somehow fantasized and embraced
  • They never could wrap their heads around the fact that in trusting God, He would provide everything they needed

  • Over the years, both in Europe and then the New World, God brought various revivals that made disciples by drawing people to Himself
  • Interspersed with revivals were Awakenings, where many people were transformed by the power of God and the nation benefited from them for a time
  • Of course, there are always skeptics and doubters who are energized by the father of lies
  • Trust in God has inevitably been a problem for modern people as well as for the Israelites
  • In America, our mantra was that we had to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps
  • In other words, it depends on us to make everything happen
  • Additionally, we get into the money trap that if we have more, everything will be just fine
  • In that worldview, there’s little room for God
  • How much more would America be a Christian nation if people such as Charles Darwin or John Dewey hadn’t come on the scene to cause disbelief and doubt that God really was our Creator and the One who could teach us all things?

  • 400 years in captivity did a number on the Israelites
  • The patriarchs in first coming to Egypt believed in the God of their fathers
  • Exposure to the Egyptian pantheon of gods for so long left the people with little remembrance of the One true God, let alone any faith in Him
  • This caused the people to be extremely fickle
  • They would witness a miracle of God and bow down before Him
  • The next minute they’d be hungry and lament for the wonderful days they used to have in Egypt with all the foods they loved at their disposal
  • Who was God that he could provide and satisfy their hunger?
  • They despised the manna, which was bread from heaven
  • Big mistake!
  • The memory of the Israelites was quite selective
  • This led to their disobedience time after time, eventually resulting in the report of the 12 spies sent over the Jordan River to Canaan
  • The people believed they could never take on the giants because they had no faith and trust in God
  • Their hearts were still in Egypt
  • This disobedience led to 40 years wandering in the wilderness and God allowing that entire generation to die out before He brought their children back for another attempt at conquering the Promised Land

  • In the earlier years of our nation, the church was on fire for the Lord, and many missionaries were sent out into the world to obey God in His Great Commission
  • Slowly that has changed with various denominations pulling back from missions to focus within the four walls of the church
  • The world invaded and the church has largely become no different than the world
  • A different gospel was preached and the hearts of the people were compromised
  • The world captured the church and that’s where the people’s true love now lies

  • For Israel the dream from the first when they left Egypt was to live in the Promised Land
  • God had made it clear that the Israelites would be His people; He would be their God, and they would live in this land of plenty
  • It was the hope and promise since their earliest days, even when they were scattered multiple times by their enemies
  • A remnant always believed that God would fulfill His promise and they would one day again live in Israel
  • The ideal of this was – in essence – their utopian dream
  • Their Messiah would rule from Jerusalem and they would live in abundance in this theocracy
  • This will come to fruition and become a reality as the 7-year Tribulation comes to an end and the Millennial Kingdom begins
  • As Zechariah 13:8-9 declares:

In the whole land, declares the Lord,
two thirds shall be cut off and perish,
and one third shall be left alive.
And I will put this third into the fire,
and refine them as one refines silver,
and test them as gold is tested.
They will call upon my name,
    and I will answer them.
I will say, ‘They are my people’;
and they will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’”

  • Faith in their true Messiah will come for Israel at this time, but it will be costly
  • Of all the Jews in Israel during this terrible seven years, only 1/3 will survive and turn to Jesus
  • But finally – finally – Israel will worship Christ the Lord in Spirit and in Truth!

  • For Christians with a pre-Tribulation Rapture perspective, we also have a dream, a hope, and a promise even better than Jesus’ 2nd Coming (because it’s sooner and will deliver us from God’s coming wrath)
  • Just like with the Israelites, the fulfillment of this has been a rocky road because many have thought through the years that the time for this snatching away was at hand
  • The teaching of the imminency of the Rapture has kept some people true to God and eagerly awaiting this marvelous translation, but it has also caused many to become disillusioned and to abandon this hope
  • Today those who believe in this Biblically-true doctrine are relatively few
  • The largest proportion of those who remain as actual born-again Christians believe in a post-Tribulation Rapture or some variation
  • They don’t have the hope or perspective of Jesus appearing in the clouds to take us to His Father’s House where we will consummate our marriage for seven years as His beloved bride
  • As I and others have argued for many years, this Glorious Appearing of Jesus is our Blessed Hope
  • It’s the fulfillment of Christ’s resurrection, with Him coming to resurrect many of us even before death
  • It’s the promise of God to take us out of this world while He rains down His judgment upon those who have rejected Him
  • Joining with Jesus in His Father’s house is our Promised Land
  • Just as the Jews hope to live, prosper, and enjoy living in the land of Israel, we likewise have a similar hope through the Rapture to be and live in God’s presence

  • To round out this Prophecy Update, let’s review the near-term future of both Israel and America
  • Good beginnings are not necessarily indicators of good endings
  • Yes, there will be a magnificent ending for both believers in Israel and America (along with the rest of the world)
  • Getting there, however, will mean great hardship for many and bring much devastation
  • In its up and down love affair with Yahweh, Israel has all too often turned to other gods and embraced the sexual immorality that comes part and parcel with them
  • The difficult neighborhood in which Israel abides, with hostile Muslim neighbors on every side, as well as anti-Semitic antagonism from every quarter around the world, has made being a faithful Jew extremely challenging
  • Some Jews have even turned on their brothers through self-hatred
  • The secular nature of most Jews and the state of Israel hasn’t changed the hatred of all those who come against God’s Chosen People
  • For the very fact that God did choose them, Satan has ginned up the world against them, even infiltrating the church of Jesus Christ to effectively curse those of the Jewish persuasion
  • Israel has enemies inside and out
  • It is a nation divided as well as one surrounded
  • Inevitably this causes great anxiety to those who don’t know God
  • When trouble comes toward Israel in the near term, what will her people do?
  • Consider this extended passage of Isaiah 28:11-22:

11 Very well then, with foreign lips and strange tongues
God will speak to this people,
12 to whom he said,
    “This is the resting place, let the weary rest”;
and, “This is the place of repose”—
    but they would not listen.
13 So then, the word of the Lord to them will become:
    Do this, do that,
    a rule for this, a rule for that;
a little here, a little there—
so that as they go they will fall backward;
they will be injured and snared and captured.

14 Therefore hear the word of the Lord, you scoffers
who rule this people in Jerusalem.
15 You boast, “We have entered into a covenant with death,
with the realm of the dead we have made an agreement.
When an overwhelming scourge sweeps by,
    it cannot touch us,
for we have made a lie our refuge
    and falsehood our hiding place.”

16 So this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone,
    a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation;
the one who relies on it
will never be stricken with panic.
17 I will make justice the measuring line
    and righteousness the plumb line;
hail will sweep away your refuge, the lie,
and water will overflow your hiding place.
18 Your covenant with death will be annulled;
your agreement with the realm of the dead will not stand.
When the overwhelming scourge sweeps by,
you will be beaten down by it.
19 As often as it comes it will carry you away;
morning after morning, by day and by night,
    it will sweep through.”

The understanding of this message
    will bring sheer terror.
20 The bed is too short to stretch out on,
the blanket too narrow to wrap around you.
21 The Lord will rise up as he did at Mount Perazim,
he will rouse himself as in the Valley of Gibeon—
to do his work, his strange work,
and perform his task, his alien task.
22 Now stop your mocking,
    or your chains will become heavier;
the Lord, the Lord Almighty, has told me
of the destruction decreed against the whole land.

  • This passage speaks of a point with Israel that their hearts are far from God
  • They are secular, and many in Israel scoff at the Word of God
  • In fact, they are so far from Him, that these verses tell of how the people of Israel will place their faith in something apart from Him so as to have peace and security
  • An overwhelming scourge will rise up and come against Israel
  • To protect against it, the rulers of Israel will agree to a covenant they think will bring peace, but will only bring death
  • They embrace a lie and suffer the consequences
  • This covenant will be annulled, and the overwhelming scourge will pass through Israel despite the hope of the rulers and people that it would not
  • Great destruction is prophesied, and Israel will not escape it
  • The cause of this overwhelming scourge is believed by many prophecy teachers to be Islam
  • I’m in the camp that sees this as Catholicism in its revamped ecumenical form that hosts the Revelation Harlot
  • That mystery religion is antithetical to Judaism
  • There will be enough Jews in Israel holding to Old Testament teachings that they will convince others to embrace the offered covenant agreement by Antichrist when he comes on the scene
  • But, of course, an agreement with the devil founded on lies can never stand
  • The agreement will hold off the Vatican’s efforts to overwhelm Israel and bring it into its ecumenical fold, but when Antichrist becomes indwelt by Satan and desecrates the recently built 3rd temple at the midpoint of the Tribulation, all the false peace will dissipate
  • Antichrist will enact persecution against the Jews like they’ve never before seen
  • It will be a bloodbath with billions likely dying
  • Only faith in Christ by 1/3 of the Jewish people will save them from death and eternal torment
  • The near future for Israel is going to be a deadly ride

  • America faces its own demons – literally
  • We – as has the rest of the Western world – have cast God out of our nation and turned to other gods
  • Just as Jeremiah 2:11-12 speaks of this abomination for Israel, it is no less appropriate in applying to America
  • Once more, here are these pertinent verses:

Has a nation ever changed its gods?
(Yet they are not gods at all.)
But my people have exchanged their glorious God
    for worthless idols.
Be appalled at this, you heavens,
    and shudder with great horror,”
declares the Lord.

  • America is no longer a Christian nation
  • We have become pagan – populated by heathens
  • No amount of political activism will change this
  • The course of our country is set
  • Jonathan Cahn in his recent book The Return of the Gods rightly applies the parable of Jesus in Matthew 12:43-45 to our situation:

“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also will it be with this evil generation.”

  • Belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior has all but disappeared in America
  • He has been deposed by God-haters
  • Frankly, the Lord won’t stick around where He isn’t wanted
  • Our house has been swept clean of faith in the One true God and the rebellious gods – the sons of God, a.k.a. the fallen angels, along with the unclean spirits wandering the earth – are piling in to this empty, God-forsaken place
  • Sin and hatred of God create an open door for evil spirits into the life of individuals, as well as into the life of the nation itself
  • We are seeing and experiencing the fruit of that from literally every quarter
  • It’s in our faces every day – all day long
  • America is a morass of wickedness, lawlessness, and sexual depravity
  • Is it any wonder the whole trans movement has been completely embraced by politicians, the media, and individuals right and left, plus the very church which should stand against this madness?
  • There is no hope for America
  • Let me repeat: There is no hope for America
  • Anyone fighting in the natural realm against this is actually doing so counter to the good counsel of the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6:12:

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

  • How can good, solid Christians be so blind as to think that by sitting on a school board or in a city council they can change any of this at this point in time?
  • If God isn’t with us, He is against us
  • In this case, He has given this nation over to exactly what it wanted
  • One or two Christians in political situations will not change this trajectory
  • It all sounds terribly defeatist, doesn’t it?
  • Sorry, but facing reality is the best policy
  • Better that true Christians should preach the Gospel rather than seek to change political opinions
  • Our nation will continue its downhill slide
  • (I know – I always have such a cheery message – but it’s the truth)
  • Our purpose and preparation as true Christians should be to shine the light of Christ into dark places and try to reach some of the lost and dying for Him
  • Why fight a battle that is preordained?
  • Bible prophecy tells us what is next
  • Why not believe it and act accordingly?
  • In all this doom and gloom, we who know the Lord can take heart
  • Things are bad and they’ll get worse
  • But the darker the night, the brighter Christ shines
  • Soon His radiant being will appear in the clouds and call us home
  • When He does – as far as I’m concerned – it won’t be a moment too soon!

You said it all here Gary when you said what is coming has been pre-ordained by the Lord Himself from thousands of years ago. He will not relent, He is God and what He has given to His prophets to tell us will all come to pass. That’s the ONLY thing people need to know, the only thing they can be sure of, and they need to live accordingly. (For sure the understanding that Jesus may come at any moment has a sobering and sanctifying effect, but most pastors refuse to share that gift with their flocks. Very sad.)

I’m the same as you, it drives me up a wall to hear anyone spouting off nonsense about election 2024 (there very well may not even be a USA by Nov. 2024, at least not one we could identify).

I’m completing my reading of the Old Testament and Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Hosea, Amos and the rest make it very clear how God deals with those who abandon Him. He is consistent, faithful and gives AMPLE warning over decades, centuries and millennia about what the consequences are when we turn from Him. It is always false teachers, false messiahs, wars, famines, death and pestilences…repeat repeat repeat. The Tribulation is the exact same thing as every time before, except on a global level instead of restricted to national or regional sufferning.

“American Exceptionalism” was granted to us by God for HIS purposes and His endowment and grace has all but expired. It is highly likely the Rapture of the Church will cut us off entirely. No one wants to hear what you say (nor I) but AS…notice I didn’t say “if”, there is no “if” about it… things continue in their downward spiral, some people are starting to wake up.

It seems as Believers we are now mostly seed planters for the huge crop of Tribulation Saints. Sure some people will come to saving faith in time; I have high hopes for the list of loved ones, both family and friends (and even enemies) who I pray for daily. But until they are confronted with the truth and live with the suffering from the consequences of their rebellion, people remain stubborn and unrepentant. Nothing has changed. And Jesus told us there are many who won’t repent even when they KNOW God is causing all the wrath that is falling upon them. That is a terrible, terrible thing, I do not wish it upon anyone.

Keep being the watchman you are Gary, judgment is clearly coming for the world, but Jesus is coming for us even sooner.

    Maranatha!
