Job 42:3 – Too Wonderful For Me

The ignorance – or rejection – of God and who He is coming from so many in the world today continues to stun me despite my understanding of Biblical history and Scripture’s foretelling of what is to come.  Paul spared no sympathies for those who live their lives in such a fashion.  In Romans 1:18-23 he said:

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

In recent weeks I’ve been reminded of the faith and writings of our Founding Fathers.  These were men of God, most of them believers in Jesus Christ, who knew the Bible and of God’s intent for man to live as a free moral agent not under tyranny.  They knew that God was (and is), that he was greater than all the evils man could devise, and that He was merciful to hear and answer the prayers and petitions of righteous men.  Because of the faith of our amazing founders, God worked through them that they might craft the incredible document we know as the Declaration of Independence.  Subsequently, many of these same men were involved in developing the U.S. Constitution that is the envy of the world for a free people.  All this was only possible under the gracious hand of God, and these men knew it.

Our country is under attack today by a violent few.  In what I call the Tyranny of the Minority, our rights are being stripped and people are losing their freedoms quickly.  This is happening because the ones perpetrating these acts hate God.  They have decided they don’t want or need Him and have cast Him aside.  Much of this attitude comes through a decades-old effort to dumb down the young through the education system and to destroy the church.  It is Marxist at its core and has been extremely successful.

Who are these people behind this effort to bring America down?  Just as Paul says, they have suppressed the truth in their unrighteousness.  They have adopted a false narrative of Darwinian evolution, which negates the need for God in the world.  Despite God having shown Himself through creation, these people have hardened their hearts and blinded their eyes to the truth that is self-evident all around them.  In doing this, the incredible minds that God gave them have turned to mush, and they’ve become futile in their thinking.  Is it any wonder that the things they propose, we look at and see how foolish it is?

One would think that the example of the creation of man would be sufficient to make the foolish think twice.  The human body is incredibly complex with its interdependent systems and the store of knowledge within the DNA in each of our cells.  Here’s a statement about this:

How many megabytes of genetic data are stored in the human body? For simplicity’s sake, let’s ignore the microbiome (all non-human cells that live in our body), and focus only on the cells that make up our body. Estimates for the number of cells in the human body range between 10 trillion and 100 trillion. Let us take 100 trillion cells as the generally accepted estimate. So, given that each diploid cell contains 1.5 GB of data (this is very approximate, as I am only accounting for the diploid cells and ignoring the haploid sperm and egg cells in our body), the approximate amount of data stored in the human body is:

1.5 Gbytes x 100 trillion cells = 150 trillion Gbytes or 150×10^12 x 10^9 bytes = 150 Zettabytes (10^21)!!!

This is far beyond my limited capacity to comprehend.  It makes me ask the question, however: What is the source of all this information if humanity came from the muck?  Where in the distant past did rocks and mud gain the ability to create such knowledge?  Is there any wonder that God would call anyone who believes such garbage a fool?

In the account of Job, in his distress, he put many questions to God.  Eventually God answered, although not in the way that Job expected.  God declared His majesty through creation.  When He laid it out as He did, Job was overwhelmed.  At the end of God’s showing Job all these things, we see in Job 42:3 this humble response:

“ ‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’

Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,

things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.”

Job did not go down the road that Paul describes in Romans.  He understood how small he was compared to the greatness of God.  That is what is lacking in these foolish people today.

They have been indoctrinated to believe that they are self-sufficient without God.  They believe that they, in fact, are God.  Because of the teaching they’ve been exposed to over the years – because God has been banished from the public square – they don’t even know how to think critically and logically.  We have devolved into a nation of violent ignoramuses.

Scripture tells us that this wholesale revolt against God has a terrible ending for those who participate.  Lawlessness will increase because these people have no moral boundaries.  It is why Jeremiah 17:9 can rightly declare:

The heart is deceitful above all things

    and beyond cure.

    Who can understand it?

The 7-year Tribulation will shake out all this evil.  Through an amazing act of God, somehow He will convict many of their sins in a great revival that brings many martyred saints to the throne of God.  Those who choose as their master the son of perdition will be held to account and face eternity in torment.

There is always a consequence to our thoughts and actions.  We who follow the Lord will be rewarded for our righteous faith.  Those who cast God aside will be punished for their wickedness.  This final time – the last act of the play of human history – is upon us.  Let us continue to thank God for His mercy that He gave His Son that we might live!
